A NEW VISION OF THE HIGH-END LOUDSPEAKER

With TÔMEI we set out to create the ultimate musical experience: a loudspeaker that sounds so live, so immersive that you can almost touch the performers. That meant rethinking every element that makes a loudspeaker, completely changing the way sound can be reproduced. The result is TÔMEI, a spatially coherent system based on our Open Air architecture.

99% of the domestic loudspeakers use closed or semi-closed enclosures with their drivers. With TÔMEI we went the opposite way and removed all panels to free the drivers. This structure applied to the high and mid frequency drivers, with the aid of an open baffle bass module, creates an almost boundless, walk-around soundstage and for the first time you not only listen to a LIVE performance, you attend it!

NOT A SIMPLE SUBWOOFER + SATELLITE SYSTEM

The TÔMEI is not a mere subwoofer + satellite system. Far from it. From the start, we privileged psychoacoustics in our design. 

The definition and measurement of sound spatialization have been strongly enhanced in last decades. Decca Trees, ORTF and other more recent measurement methods have been used to get a better understanding of sound reproduction based on ears position, and head shadowing effects. Eden Acoustics took advantage of these spaced techniques to design a three parts loudspeaker system, able to reproduce a full 3-D sound reconstruction, where phase and spatiality are faithfully reproduced in the listening room. 

As unconventional as it may seem, we created a three module loudspeaker system that surpasses conventional two cabinet speakers in coherency. The triangle formed by our bass module and the two open air monitors, creates an advanced three-dimensional reproduction of the original recording, where scale, width, perspectives and movement are all conveyed to the listener.

These results were made possible by the seamless integration of drivers using a digital signal processor (DSP), and the unique Eden Acoustics Open Air architecture.

STYLISH DESIGN

Every TÔMEI loudspeaker system is finely crafted of solid wood and acrylic parts to damp any resonance.

TOWERS: Each tower makes use of 9 acrylic diffusion ribs and comes with a solid American walnut wood support. The base is a 2-inch thick sculpted block of acrylic with specially designed, damped aluminum spikes.

BASS MODULE: The separate bass module employs a 1-inch solid wood baffle with stainless steel braces. It also stands on damped aluminum spikes.

CONTROL UNIT: Our ACU-01 unit is built of stainless steel that does not fade over time paired to solid wood and an acrylic front panel.

CABLES: The TÖMEI system uses twist’n lock speakon connectors, which improve the connection and are much easier to use. The bi-wire speaker cables are included with the system and they come from a renowned loudspeaker cable company in Scotland.

ACTIVE LOUDSPEAKER

To reach that level of performance, we used the best sounding Digital Signal Processing units (DSP) and new generation Class D amplifiers to power each driver directly without any interference from passive components like capacitors, coils or resistors. All signals are processed by a 1.5GFlops 40-bits/384 Khz 4th generation floating point DSP.

Each TOMEI driver is powered by a dedicated amplifier.
Each amplifier is directly connected to the drivers’ voice coils, without any power-robbing, phase-shifting, passive crossover parts (resistors, coils, caps) in the signal path. Each amplifier channel is driven by individual AKM AK4495 32-bit DACs that accept up to 768 kHz PCM and 22.4 DSD data.

THE HEART OF THE SYSTEM

The TÔMEI control unit — ACU-01 — contains the digital optimization and crossover, the amplifiers, and the D to A and A to D converters. The system comes with a wide variety of digital inputs (one USB Audio Class 2, one S/PDIF), which are capable of handling 24-bit/192kHz high-resolution music files. The TOMEI can also be sourced wirelessly via AirPort Express™ or Chromecast Audio™ and offers a high resolution A-to-D converter board with XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced inputs for those who want to play back LPs or tapes.

With amplification built in, all you have to add to TOMEIs to make them play is a source and a USB or SPDIF or cable. (And you don’t even have to add a cable if you choose to source them via an AirPort ExpressChromecast Audio.)


The standard ACU-01 comes with an acrylic enclosure (Semi-transparent acrylics body with black front panel). Optionally a solid wood enclosure withe black or white acrylic front panel is also offered.
